This 1932 Highboy Roadster replica is not only one of the most iconic hot rod shapes of all time but also has many upgrades over Ford’s original. A stronger frame, larger cabin, 355ci engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and tilt column are just some of the features that make this car more enjoyable than so many others.
Titled as a 1932 Ford, this roadster has a custom chassis with boxed frame rails and tubular cross sections. The fiberglass body’s interior and doors are stretched two inches which not only provides more space but also improves ingress/egress. The metal hood and louvered side panels are removeable as is the windshield, allowing several different configurations. All of them look great with the copper and black paint along with a tight band of flames. There is also plenty of chrome visible from the exposed suspension components. Wheels are American Racing aluminum pieces with BF Goodrich tires (195/60R15 front, 285/70R15 rear).
The drivetrain uses a 355ci Chevy small block backed by a TH350 automatic transmission with a proper kickdown mechanism. This is a well-proven recipe for any street car and is especially potent in a lightweight street rod. There is also a Ford 9” rear end with tall 2.75 gears for great highway cruising. Other features include an aluminum radiator, electric cooling fan, and a great sound through the dual exhaust. The solid axle front suspension is chromed throughout as is the triangulated 4-link rear with adjustable coilovers. The steering linkage also uses a lot of chrome along with a box from Flaming River, while stopping power comes from vacuum boosted four-wheel disc brakes.
Now interiors can be a weak point on many street rods, but not this one. The custom black and tan leather was professionally installed and looks amazing. Note the matching trunk as well. The bench seat and larger cabin provide more space than you might expect, while the longer doors and Ididit tilt column make it easier to get in / out than most ‘32s. The dashboard has a center set of VDO gauges mounted in an aluminum panel. All lights and turn signals work properly as do the horn and parking brake. Note there are no wipers or radio.
The 1932 Ford is one of the most popular hot rods in the world, and for good reason. It not only has great lines but also represents the dawn of an era, when V8 power and the phrase “hot rod” began to take hold. This one gives you all that character along with many updated features, all in a great looking package that offers plenty of fun as well.
